Last year I was invited down to AIDA Shoreditch, to film with International Make-up Artist Jo Martin  a set of make-up tutorials using Paul and Joe Beaute. For once, I was the model, and I sat back whilst Jo went through four different make-up looks and techniques. You can see the behind the scenes by reading this post here.
Jo then very kindly sent me a box full of make-up to try from P&J and so today, after a fair few months of playing around with them, I thought I would do a brand focus post for you. I don’t see too many people blogging about this brand, and I have absolutely no idea why, as you guys are missing out if you have not yet tried P&J Beaute, this stuff is incredible
Paul and Joe are a brand that are very into skincare, very similar to ByTerry for that matter, just not carrying that huge price tag. They focus on “creamy moisture” and healthy glowing “radiance“. Isn’t that what we all want from our make-up, THAT GLOW? This is down to the carefully selected flower based moisturising ingredients, which leads me to the next point, everything smells divine.
Keeping to ingredients for a second, in my most recent posts, I have discussed the idea of “going green“. This is still the case, however, before I made this decision to avoid certain ingredients, I never before really checked the ingredient list on make-up, including during the testing of these particular products. I have tested all of the following products on myself, but will be putting them into my professional kit in the future. I am not intending on turning my professional kit “green” just yet folks. Sticking to my word, and to what I now believe in, some of these products do contain parabens, sulphates and mineral oil. I would just like to make you aware of that.
Now onto the review.
In terms of your base, we have the Protecting Foundation Primer, containing your vital SPF protection, is moisturising and holds your make-up in place all day long. It gives a lovely sheen to your skin and I have even worn this alone. Pictured above is the Moisturising Fluid Foundation which smells beautiful thanks to the Orange Flower floral notes. This is more suited to a dryer skin as is quite dewy. It is a sheer foundation but can be built up. As I am quite dehydrated and tend to get a little oily, I found the Silky Smooth UV Foundation more suited to me. This gives the skin a beautiful within the skin glow, is really lightweight, whilst giving a flawless appearance to my complexion. This happens to be the PERFECT match for my skin in terms of colour, I have not yet found a foundation to beat it. I do intend to finish this bottle as I love the finish so much. I actually included it in a Monthly Favourites last November. To finish off the base and to conceal any blemishes or dark circles the Illuminating Touch Pens are packed full of radiance and not in that white out YSL pen way. They have a peachy undertone so great for neutralizing any blue tones. On good skin days I would wear the primer and a touch of the illuminating pen alone.
The Eyebrow Liner, has been a god send, and offers a great shade for blondes. The Liquid Eye Liner is still the easiest eye liner I have ever used, and I have it in brown which is a refreshing change to the classic black. Eyebrow Pencil Duo is great for those who love defined brows, one end is more waxy to hold your brow hair in place. The Eye Colour Primer is one of the best I have used, and I have used a hella lot. A product Jo told me was one of her personal favourites is the Lip Concealer Duo, this is the key to bigger lips and also helps hold your lipstick in place. You basically outline your lips with this to create a shape you want, or to define the true shape of your lip. It is ruddy marvelous and works a darn treat if you ask me.

This is where it gets interesting, for the blusher, eyes and lips, you can pick your own packaging and with each season you get to pick from a limited edition range. You buy the compact in whatever style you want, for say your eyes, and then you buy your refill separately. I love this idea as it means you can reuse your packaging over and over and as you have chosen it yourself, you are bound to love it. I mean the packaging is just stunning and for me is one of their main selling points. Just look at those photographs above to see what I mean.
I also tried the Hair and Body Mist, again, smells delightful and a great product to throw in your handbag. I love the fact you can use this in your hair too! There is a huge array of skincare and bodycare that I have not tried but I imagine to be wonderful.
Overall opinion? The formulas are genuinely gorgeous to work with, and even though for personal reasons I will not be using this on my own skin, okay maybe the foundation as it is just too darn good, I will be using this on clients and I can be rest assured that they will be just as impressed as I have been.

I’ve honestly never heard of Paul and Joe before. I’m in the States, does anyone know if these are sold here? I think the blushes and eyeshadows look fabulous. (And the packaging!)

  • The colours look quite bright in the packaging, but you’ve created such a lovely look. Always good to try a new brand out!
