Photoshoot with Melissa Wells & Adam Robertson | Recent Work

Hello.
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with photographer Adam Robertson and model/actress Melissa Wells. The photoshoot took place in a gorgeous part of the UK called Huntingdon, close to Cambridge. The purpose of the shoot was to update Mel’s portfolio, so we got to work through a few different looks and outfits. I had an amazing day and thought we all made an amazing team.
During the shoot I used favourite’s from my kit such as the Illamasqua Hydra Veil primer (review here) and Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation. I also got to play with Tom Ford Cream Eye shadows and my staple Shade and Illuminate palette.
Mel has the MOST UNREAL skin. It is flawless! This is, without a shadow of a doubt, down to good genes and a combination of her healthy plant-based diet and passion for yoga. I always like to properly cleanse the skin before beginning a make-over, so when I was cleansing Mel’s skin, I was overwhelmed as I realised she did not have a scrap of make-up on her face – the entire time I thought she had foundation on. THIS shows just how perfect her skin actually is, a make-up artist’s dream.
JUST LOOK AT THIS FACE!!! GORGEOUS!!

For the very first look I wanted to make the most of Melissa’s beautiful skin and not mask it with foundation. I wanted the focus to be dewy skin and just a flick of eye liner.
For the base I used the tiniest amount of MAC Face and Body foundation, followed by subtle contouring with Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation and MAC Prep and Prime Highlight. I set this with Illamasqua Translucent Setting Powder. I contoured the nose and temple with my Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate palette. I added highlight, using the same palette, to the bridge of the nose and the cupids bow.
For the brows I used my Crownbrush Brow Palette with an Illamasqua Brow brush. The eyes I applied a Tom Ford Cream Eye Shadow, in a subtle baby pink. Ardell Demi Wispies Fashion lashes, Illamasqua Precision Gel liner and Kiko Waterproof Mascara finished the eyes off.  All I needed then was to pop a little bit of Vaseline on the lips.
The second look of the day, I decided to try out a red lip. Of course, I used MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick, the most classic red and I think every single make-up artist owns this. Keeping the eye make-up the same as the previous look, the only other change I made was to bronze Mel up. I used a MAC Bronzer, I forget which one but it wasn’t matte…. it had a very slight shimmer to it. Memory of a goldfish apologies guys.

Onto the third look, I removed the red lipstick and replaced it with my current favourite pink lipstick: Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Carthage. It is the BEST pink ever! I absolutely love it. I also added a purple eyeshadow to the outer crease, along the socket line. Solely to make Mel’s eyes pop a little more and to tie the look together nicely. The shade I picked was from my Crownbrush Nude 88 Eye shadow palette which I will be reviewing this week!

After the pink lip, we changed to a nude lip as you can see in these camera grabs above. I totally forgot to grab a shot of the lipstick I used, but it was one from Kiko Cosmetics.

Totally losing track of looks, I think this is 5…

Here you can see the nude lipstick I used in the previous look, we kept it the same for this next look, I just made the eyes a bit more glam! I left the cream shadow on as a base and just went over it with purple and gold shades, from the Crownbrush Nude 88 Palette. I took the purple darker in the crease and in the inner corner I used a gorgeous antique gold shade.

For the final look, yes, we have reached the end of the shoot folks! I stripped back all of Mel’s make-up so that she had nothing left on her skin. Cleansed, spritz of toner and a hydrating moisturiser. I then applied Tom Ford Illuminating Primer, Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate palette for very subtle contouring and a spot of powder on the brows.
What completed this look, were the “faux freckles“. I explained to Mel that I could create pretend freckles if she wanted, as she really liked the idea, I grabbed my MAC Brow Pencil in Lingering and drew on lots of tiny freckles. It is such a simple, but effective technique, to completely change the way you look. The key is to keep them as natural as possible. I personally believe they came out great.
