Liz Earle | Hot Cloth Cleanse & Polish | The Review

I have been finishing off a collection of cleansers for quite some time, including Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel, Dermalogica Skin Resurfacing Cleanser, Arbonne Smoothing Facial Cleanser, Karen Murrell Organic Cleanser, Nude... Ok you get the point. I have a LOT of cleansers. If like me, you have a zillion different options, you kinda think they are never going to run out. It was only when I got in the shower last week and realised the only option left was to use my boyfriend’s facial wash, it sunk in that my never ending collection had actually come to an end.  It was a good job I bought it him, so it was a nice one from Kiehls. Not that I am a snob or anything…
Rambling introduction over, I flew home to the UK last weekend and decided I needed to try something new. Walking through Leeds, I stumbled across the Liz Earle store. As I walked in, I looked back towards the store opposite, my trusty SpaceNK. I literally felt like I was cheating on the store. That is loyalty for you right there.
The lovely assistant was, as the adjective I just chose hints, very lovely. She explained Liz Earle only has one cleanser, one suitable for all skin types. The Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. For only £14.50 you get a whopping 100ml and 2 muslin cloths, this in my eyes was a total bargain considering how much I typically would spend.

I haven’t used a cleanser which requires a muslin cloth in quite a while, so thought I would give this one a whirl. Yes, they can seem quite a chore to some, but my skincare routine is somewhat of a ritual nowadays so I quite like the idea of using a muslin cloth to remove my make up, to cleanse and to exfoliate.
A note on the packaging…
I really like the packaging. I love how the cleanser and muslin cloths come together in a nice toiletry bag that is wipe clean and opens via a small zip at the top. The cleanser itself has an easy to use pump and sits very nicely on my bathroom shelf.
So how did I get on with it?
I made a note of the ingredients, a pretty list including Chamomile, Rosemary, Cocoa butter and Eucalyptus Essential Oils. I followed the instructions telling me to apply 2-3 pumps to dry skin. I found I only needed 2 pumps. You are also advised to start in the centre of your face working your way outwards and focusing on the eyes last. I loved the fact this cleanser is also gentle enough to remove eye-make-up. I could open my eyes with the cleanser over them and felt no irritation, always a good sign. The cleanser melts off every trace of make-up, and then you use your muslin cloth to  remove the make-up properly and cleanse and exfoliate the skin. I dampened the cloth in warm water and it took me less than a minute to remove everything from my face.
In comparison to the only other muslin cloth cleansing routine I have used, Eve Lom, the Liz Earle formula is so much lighter and has a much nicer fragrance. Eve Lom reminds me of dentists and Liz Earle reminds me of Vix rub, the stuff you get to help you when you have a cold? The smell of eucalyptus is not overpowering but you can very much tell it is in the cleanser, I really liked the scent.
A splash of cold water later and a patting of the towel, my skin felt SO soft. I was very, very impressed. I even ran up to my boyfriend and told him to feel my face.
When trying a new cleanser, as with any skincare product, I panic about breaking out in spots. So far, not one spot has appeared, and usually if my skin disagrees with a product it bubbles and rages straight away.
I have also used this, for those interested, with my Clarisonic. It is the PERFECT cleanser for the Clarisonic, and for this reason alone I would repurchase it. I only use my Clarisonic 2-3 times a week, so on the nights I don’t use it I will stick to the muslin cloths.

Back to the lovely assistant, she asked me if I would like a sample of anything. The skincare junkie in me wanted to scream EVERYTHING YOU HAVE, but I politely requested a moisturiser. The Liz Earle Skin Repair moisturiser for Normal to Combination skin is just lovely. It felt a tiny tiny bit heavier to the moisturisers I have been previously using, but I have to say, I really am liking this product. It smells so fresh. I am using this more so of an evening, as my current daytime moisturiser has an SPF in which I very much need living out in Mallorca. However, I have worn it during the day to test “does it make me oilier” and I can safely report it doesn’t make me more oilier, but it doesn’t necessarily control my shine either. If you want a moisturiser to pack your skin with vitamins and hydrate your skin, then this is for you. I would definitely get the full size in the future.
So there you go, my lengthy review on the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanse and Polish. I love it and I will definitely be buying this again in the future. I must admit, I did feel awful not going into SpaceNK, so I popped over after I made this purchase to buy my staple Nude Cleansing Oil… so now I have both to play with. Oops.
See you soon,
