Winter Skincare Saviours

You work hard all year round to achieve radiant, blemish free skin, and then Winter strutts up, laughs right at you and just messes your routine up entirely. Being a dehydrated skin type, anything that upsets my hydration levels well and truly plays havoc with my skin. I get dry patches, I break out and just look awfully tired. In the run up to Christmas, party season has already kicked in for me so the dubious amounts of alcohol I have been drinking of late, have certainly not been helping either. Tut tut. I have been searching for skincare saviours to help keep my skin on track during the colder, harsher seasons. These offerings I have here to share with you today have been working wonders for me.

The… bare with me this a long name….Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega- Mushroom Skin Relief Micellar Water… wow, what a mouthful. This, has been a game changer. I have been using this as my first step in my cleansing routine for the past fortnight. I come home from work and instantly remove every scrap of make-up from my face using this. It feels so lovely and soothing and has definitely helped calm down my recent break outs. It is expensive for a micellar water but it just makes my skin feel so much better, plus the packaging is pretty fantastic.
I have days where I feel like all the moisture has been sucked right outta me, and that is when I will reach for the Skyn Iceland Pure Cloud Cleanser. I will pop this onto dry skin and massage in before removing with hot water and a flannel.
The hero product here, and one I nearly gave an entire review to by itself (Actually, scratch that, I probably still will) is the Doctor’s Scrub Advanced by Goldfaden MD. When I was asked if I would like to try this, I was sold shallowly by the fact it is loved by Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow. It is even sold on Goop. Not one to simply give into celebrity whisked up hype, I obviously put this bad boy to the test – and ermaaaghaaawwwwd. Do you want that baby skin fresh feeling? That, run out onto the street, grab the nearest stranger and tell them to stroke your face feeling? THIS GIVES YOU THAT. I looked in the mirror after using it and was just staring at my skin. How can I sell this to you even more? Okay, so that scene in The Holiday, and Cameron Diaz is in her night wear and just looks freakin’ gorgeous and her skin is all glowy after just waking up (yes I know it is just a movie) but THAT skin, this scrub gives you that. Okay… I knew this product needed a post to itself. Damn.
Basically, this is actually designed for oily, problematic skin types, but you see being dehydrated I have areas of skin that are very congested and have blocked oil glands too. This is why I still get horrendous break outs – those annoying under the skin ones, yeah those. I have been using this scrub generously, around twice a week. It feels and acts the same way as microdermbrasion – this stuff is not gentle guys. The deep exfoliating action buffs away all your dead skin cells and reveals beautiful, radiant skin. I have focused using this on my problem areas, and particularly a scar on my face that I just want to disappear. Has it been working? If you didn’t guess already, then yes, yes it has. I would use it every day I love it that much – but that is crazy and unnecessary, and wait for it, EXPENSIVE. Say bye bye to £85.
Now for the two yellow tubs of goodness that I have been loving. I never ever thought I would enjoy using a cream designed for dry skin types. Nevertheless, the skincare world is full of surprises. The Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Cream, I have been popping onto the areas of my skin – my cheeks and forehead – that have been incredibly dry and dehydrated. It just feels so comforting, I really have enjoyed using this. It sits really well underneath make-up too. Of an evening, around 2-3 times a week I will treat my skin to Darphin 8 Flower Nectar Oil Cream. Did you know this contains a rare aromatic blend of essences taken from 280 petals? Like, ALL the petals. I have a huge, huge soft spot for Darphin and actually wept a little when my Hydraskin serum ran out this week. This cream is truly lovely and smells so amazing, you cannot quite believe you get to rub your face in it?
Congratulations. You reached the end of this rambly post. I do go on don’t I?
