Yesterday I wrote about my very first day, of my IMATS London experience. In case you missed it, you can read it by clicking here

For my second and final body painting demonstration of the weekend, I had planned an intricate, geometric design. Sadly however, having had suffered the Saturday evening with an incredible migraine, on waking Sunday morning – in a panic as I had slept in – I decided I was not up for such a complicated design and wanted to do something which required more fun than concentration as such. I felt drained the day before and wanted to approach my final day at IMATS with a brighter attitude and to enjoy it fully. I explained my change in decision to my assistants…
I had a few images on my phone of geometric designs, and then more painterly body art, after flicking through a selection, I trusted both my assistants to help me in coming up with something creative, and we somehow pulled it off. The piece that came together was a completely “raw” design. In the words of one of my assistants, Danielle Roberts, we “winged it”. I agree with Danielle, our best work happens spontaneously, in the moment
One colour scheme. Metallic. A handful of “inspirational images” and a stack of bronze, gold and silver bodypaint. This is what we created.

First we covered the body entirely with silver and grey paint, using sponges and brushes in a stippling action to create texture, rather than a flat canvas. From there we then layered detail using bronze, copper and gold, even white and black. Lauren Coombes created the geometric design on the face and Danielle made the decision to replicate this on parts of the body. The pair of them pulled the entire look together, finishing off with splatters of yellow paint, which was incredibly fun to watch. Detail was then added using Julia Townsend Autumn Rose Body Art Gilding Flakes. Sean Lerwill, our fantastic model, suggested he looked like a piece of art work. I have to agree. The entire look was completed in 2-3 hours and the entire time we smiled, laughed, joked. It really was a fab end to the weekend.
