Getting Fit | The Plan, The Goals.

A beauty blogger writes about her fitness goals in 2015

In keeping with my Resolutions, it is time I talked to you about my fitness goals. Every single year I begin by making all these promises to myself, I look into joining a gym, and download a few apps to inspire me to exercise. For around a month, usually the whole of January, I will follow YouTube tutorials on how to get my butt in shape. I will do yoga yes, but even then I am not doing it enough, once a fortnight if that. I have never gone the whole hog, made that ever so important lifestyle change.
I could say I don’t know why this year will be different, but I do know why. I have not just promised myself, I adjusted my attitude, my outlook. This year is different, because my mindset is different.
No one else is going to get fit for me, and if I don’t start now, then when? Tomorrow? The week after? A whole year will fly by again. Stop making excuses Zoe.
Boxing Day, I went out and bought myself a whole new fitness wardrobe from T.K Maxx. You don’t need to wear Nike, or Adidas, whichever “big name” that everyone is wearing at the moment. I wanted to spend a small amount of money, to get myself started. My incentive: You can buy Nike when you prove yourself.
I have my own personal goals. How many reps of x exercise I can do in y time. And yes, my screensaver is a VS Angel. I am determined this time, to see a change in my body. Not for anyone else, but for myself.

I am lucky. I know this. To be a size 6. So some people may think, what on earth are you going on about, you don’t need to get fit. Getting fit, is NOT just about losing weight or fitting into your old pair of jeans. I could not run 5k if I tried, I would make myself seriously ill by just attempting that. How is anyone supposed to run away from a zombie, when running up and down stairs gives them a headache?
So, with all this in mind. What is The Plan?
1) Inspiration: Instagram is awesome. I follow so many yoga instructors, body bare centres, fitness gurus and most importantly friends who have got fitness loaded and locked down. Sean Lerwill, Lydia Millen and Carly Rowena. I am looking at you.

2) Skipping. Did you know ten minutes of skipping equates to a 45 minute walk? Watch this video here of Adriana Lima, and you will immediately want to look that cool. Best thing is, my skipping rope cost me less than a fiver, which is what you would probably spend on a coffee in Starbucks, that will last you the whole of ten minutes. A skipping rope is a game changer, think about it.

3) Kettlebells / Weights. I was given these for Christmas last year and before taking the above photograph, I had to wipe off LAYERS of dust. How embarrassing? I want to incorporate weights into my fitness routine, to build muscle not to bulk up.

4) Pilates /Yoga. I have been doing yoga daily thanks to a great app I use on my iPad, All-In-One-Yoga. I could not recommend this enough. I am booking flights to Portugal, as in April I will be heading to the Rainbow City yoga retreat, all of which I will blog about of course.
5) Resistance. If the VS Angels use resistance bands to train, then so do I. Speaking of VS Angels, check out these Victoria’s Secret inspired workouts, I love this bum one.
I have been doing all of this religiously, working out every single day, for just over a fortnight. I feel great and can already see small changes in my body. If you are wanting to get fit this year, no one else is going to do it for you, so just go out there and do what it takes to get your motivation. If this cake loving, sofa surfing spud can do it, then I know you can too.

  • I love being motivated to keep fit. I agree, it’s not all about losing the weight I just need to get my fitness up in general. My main exercise is dance which is a bonus because it doesn’t feel like a chore as I enjoy doing it! x

Being a size 6 when I’ve been working out people are like ‘BUT OMG YOUR SO SKINNY’ – I know but I want to be FIT too!! Considering I am erm, not an exercise person, I’ve been doing the Blogilates Pilates Beginner workout for two weeks now and I love it. It’s the perfect way of exercising for me and I can see a difference in my fitness and physique already!

I may have to add skipping to my routine too, I never knew it amounted to a 45 minute walk!
