Dehydrated Skin Saviours

Beauty blogger Zoe Newlove recommends dehydrated skincare saviours from clinique, derma, antipodes, melvita and weleda
For those of you who also belong in the Dehydrated Skin Club, then this post is for you. Not sure what your skin type is? Usually dehydrated skin feels slightly tight after cleansing, if not immediately spritzed with a hydrating toner. It is also prone to an oily t-zone due to your skin dying of thirst. I also find I get the odd blemish or hormonal break out but this is not strictly down to having the D-Skin type. Your skin may in fact look and feel normal,  and only when you apply your make-up and see that it sinks into every pore and line do you realise that indeed, you are dehydrated. So lovely isn’t it?
I figured it would be useful to put together a selection of the skincare I reach for during the particularly parched times.

My new favourite cleanser right now is the Derma Comforting Gelle Cleanser. It melts make-up off so easily and just feels really nourishing, whilst plumping and moisturising my skin too. I tend to use this of an evening as my second cleanse, but it also works well as a morning time cleanse too, just ensure you use a tiny amount and a good flannel to remove it properly. Packed full of yummy ingredients, as well as hydrating my skin it also helps protect against fine lines and wrinkles. I shall do a full review of this soon.
I absolutely love using the Melvita Youthful Skin Extraordinary Water. I apply this to my skin after cleansing, to prep my skin before serums and moisturisers. It feels like zooped up super water, and refreshes and soothes my dehydrated skin instantly. This is a life saver when I have myself a little hangover and need to resurrect my skin the following day. A great one to carry in your professional make-up kits too, models love this.
Instead of always using a daily moisturiser, I try to mix up my skincare routine in the morning and I will add in a facial oil instead. With my skin being not just dehydrated, but also quite problematic at the moment – lovely hormonal breakouts – I have been really dependant on the Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Oil. It is such a nice base before applying my foundation, as it soothes my skin and forms a protective barrier. Almonds are packed full of fatty acids and vitamin e, which makes for a fab restorative and reparative ingredient.
Of an evening I have been finding it difficult to choose between the two, another facial oil, the Antipodes Organic Divine Facial Oil and the Clinique Superdefense Night Recovery Moisturiser. Both of these make my skin look ruddy fantastic when I wake up in the morning and really help maintain the moisture levels.

Talk to me, what are you struggling with right now with your skin? What do you reach for to help it?

My problem is that my skin is dry and often dehydrated but yet struggles to absorb products. I tend to have to use layers of light products that it will actually absorb rather then slapping on thicker creams that will just sit on my skin. I’m looking forward to trying one of the new Essence lotions as they sound perfect for me x

  • My skin is both dry and dehydrated, so this post is perfect for me! I haven’t actually tried any of these products, but I love the sound of the Weleda oil and I’ve heard great things about Antipodes skincare 🙂
