Hair | How To Care For Platinum Blonde Hair

Beauty blogger Zoe Newlove tells you how to care for platinum blonde hair featuring Redken Extreme, Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum and Touch of Silver
High Maintenance. There is no point beating about the bush here, blonde hair is hard work – especially if you are not already naturally fair. Luckily for me, I am really fair, so I don’t need a lot of bleach to lift my hair to this platinum blonde colour. Nevertheless, where colour is involved, a shopping list of product follows. I forever swap and change the colour of my hair, a terrible habit but one that I feel is never going to grow old. Therefore, I feel after all these years of visiting hair salons, I know a good hair product when I see one. Today I thought I would share with you my current routine on how to keep platinum blonde hair nice and healthy.

I swear by Redken Extreme range, perfect for rebuilding and strengthening damaged and over cooked hair. I begin with the shampoo in this range when washing my hair, before moving onto an old firm favourite (also the cheapest product in the bunch) Touch of Silver Violet Brightening Shampoo – this stuff is the business. If you feel like you hair is going yellow or looking discoloured, leave this shampoo on for a good five to ten minutes and it will sort you right out.
A recent discovery and one that I am obsessed with is the Redken Blonde Idol Custom Tone Adjustable Violet Conditioner Treatment. My GOD this is such a clever addition to my hair routine. So at the top, is this twisty gadget (all technical  here folks) and you adjust it to however many weeks it has been since your last salon / colour session. Right now it has been about 4 to 5 weeks since my last hair appointment and so I have been using the maximum deposit about twice a week. It keeps my hair looking bright and fresh as well as giving it all the love and attention your normal conditioner would. My hair feels so soft every time I use this. One I would highly recommend – especially if you cannot get to the salon often.
Once a week I will use a hair mask, after all the hair styling and heat I put my hair through, the least it deserves is a treat. I swear by Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum Reconstruction Repair Masque. It leaves my hair looking so healthy and shiny as well as feeling super soft – even the dry ends feel nourished.
Before I get to work with the hair dryer, I will spritz the Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum Miracle Filler Treatment all over my hair. I cannot express how awesome this spray is – I wish I had discovered it sooner. It works by filling in the gaps in your hair cuticles, leaving it feeling smoother and stronger. The more you use it the better your hair gets. As well as the miracle filler, I love the heat protectant spray that Pureology do, the Colour Fanatic. Last but not least I will apply 1-2 pumps of the Dove Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment to my hair, just to give it that last bit of love. This oil smells incredible !
This is the hair care routine that has always worked for me, but bare in mind I get my hair professionally done in a salon and this definitely benefits your hair too. When I get my hair washed I always ask for a colour appropriate treatment, usually something with protein in to help strengthen my hair. I truly believe finding a decent hair salon is worth every penny. My favourite places include Trevor Sorbie in Covent Garden and George Northwood just off Oxford Circus
I am actually getting my hair done – again I know – tomorrow! I am so excited. Stay tuned as of course I will share the experience with you guys.

  • I don’t have Platinum Blonde hair but just reading everything you said about the products makes me want to dye my hair just to see the effects they’ll have on me! Although I think I’m going to cheat, and just use most of these on my brunette hair!
