Bookworm Files | Beauty Books I’m Currently Loving…

Beauty blogger Zoe Newlove reviews four of her favourite beauty books including Easy on the Eyes by Lisa Potter Dixon, Gary Cockerill Simply Fabulous, The Glam Guide Fleur de Force and Life with a Sprinkle of Glitter.
Without even realising it, I have formed a new collection of beauty books. Over the last few months we have seen beauty bloggers and make-up artists release their very own beauty guides, as a make-up artist and a beauty blogger myself I enjoy to flick through these sorts of books, every so often, just to gain new knowledge on the industry that I love.

The first one I picked up was Life With A Sprinkle Of Glitter by Louise Pentland. This one I purchased on a whim, as I was casually browsing books in Asda of all places whilst shopping with my mum. I had never before bought a book written by a blogger and was really intrigued by the concept, so in the basket it went. I am yet to read the entire thing but from what I have flicked through so far, I have surprisingly really enjoyed.  It is full of colourful photographs, bright illustrations and just looks like a lot of fun went into creating it. Full of advice and personal snippets on beauty and crafting, to how she isn’t a fan of cooking, and openly about love. It definitely is written with the younger teenage market in mind, so it isn’t something I would recommend to girl’s my age, but I am glad I bought it.
My favourite book in my growing collection is Easy On The Eyes by Lisa Potter- Dixon.  I am probably totally biased as I just adore Lisa as a person, inside and out, but honestly this book is fantastic. Visually I think it looks awesome, the front cover is slightly textured and has a really great feel to it.
Eye make-up is something a lot of people can be quite scared of and see it as the hardest part of a make-up routine to tackle. This book really helps to break down that barrier and talks you through 5, 15 and 30 minute make-up looks. Yes, you really can spend 30 minutes on a beautiful eye make-up. What I absolutely love about this book is the fact it is targeted at all ages, so no matter how old you are, you can still find something to suit you. Lisa’s personality is definitely strong throughout, with lots of fun, vibrant ideas alongside the more traditional classic looks, all of which are made easy with great step by step guides. Even as a make-up artist myself I picked up some fab tips and I am sure you guys will too. I don’t want to give too much away as I genuinely think you should get hold of this for yourselves. No scary technical terms, no hardcore rules, just really simple professional tips made accessible to all make-up lovers.

Gary Cockerill has also brought out a book, Simply Glamorous, and this is full to the brim of stunning photographs. I have followed Gary and his work for the past 8 years, so to be invited along to his launch and to properly meet him was a real moment for me. Such a talented yet humble man, it really was a pleasure to listen to him talk about his experiences as a make-up artist and to hear how “normal” he is despite his celebrity client list. I get lost in the images in this book and really take in the beauty of his work.
Last but not least, The Glam Guide by Fleur de Force, now this one is the latest to my collection. I was kindly invited along to the launch of Fleur’s make-up line with Feel Unique a few weeks ago, and in my goodie bag was this book. I cannot wait to get properly stuck into this as I do admire Fleur and what she has achieved. I wish I had been brave enough to say hello to her the evening of her pool party – how silly is that?  It really bothers me when people put down bloggers for writing a book, like they shouldn’t be allowed to, but who has a right to say what we as bloggers can or cannot achieve. I salute any blogger for following their dreams and making them come true and girls like Fleur and Louise should be admired for that.
What are you favourite beauty books? I need to add more to my coffee table.
