As I sit down to type up this blog post, I cannot actually believe that IMATS London 2015 is already over. For the second year running Crownbrush UK asked me if I would perform two live body painting demonstrations on a stage at their stand. Of course, I said yes. You can see what I got up to last year if you fancy just click here.
I love drawing and painting but body painting is whole different skill set, and one that I am still very much new to. It is a skill set that I really want to work on as when I relax I actually quite enjoy the process. Earlier this year, I worked on a Mythical Creatures Body Painting Project, with a very special person whom I am lucky enough to call my friend: Anna Lingis. I knew without a doubt that I wanted to do IMATS with Anna by my side. She is really inspirational and if you do not follow her work already over on Instagram, then I really suggest that you do. Anna comes up with the most amazing creations and having worked with her before, I knew that we would be a good team for the Crownbrush stand.
So Day One, what theme did we decide upon?
With Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass coming out next year, we thought it would be fun to do a Mad Hatter and a Twisted Alice. Anna is known for her quirky twists in her work, and I wanted to ensure that her style came through in our demonstrations.
Anna worked on Alice. I worked on the Mad Hatter.
Honestly? I found the entire first day so stressful and felt so unbelievably poorly. I did not achieve what I really had in mind,  but I am still really happy with the outcome. We had such fantastic models to work with: Sean Lerwill and Kate Braithwaite. A huge thank you to you guys, an absolute pleasure working with you both. Anna absolutely smashed it out of the park with her Twisted Alice, and Kate really brought the character to life.

What products did we use ?
All of the paints were a mix of Superstar and Global Paints which you can purchase from the awesome The Face Painting Shop in Essex. I used a wide range of brushes from Crownbrush, but the majority of them came from the Infinity and Studio range. For larger areas you need bigger buffing brushes and for the detail work, you need smaller, pointed brushes.  We bought a bunch of props from all kinds of places, including a random fancy dress shop outside of Clapham Junction station. The wig however was supplied to us by the guys over at Annabelle’s Wigs – I absolutely freakin’ love this hair piece. Anna cleverly made the nails herself, which you can see a close up shot of further down this post. She also customised a couple of Lash Boutique lashes by doubling them up and covering them in red glitter.
We also used little bits from Make-up Atelier, such as their Orange Glitter which I put all over the Mad Hatter’s eyebrows and M.A.C Cosmetics supplied some body paint and Mixing Fluid.

So that guys, was Day One of IMATS London 2015. I will be posting tomorrow all about Day Two – my favourite of the two days. I hope you like what we created and come back tomorrow to see the second part of our work.
