FOTD: Golden Smokey Eye
If you follow me on Instagram (zoenewlove) or Twitter (@zonewlove) then you would have seen me share the above image. It is the Before & After photo of the make-up look I created on the lovely model Sammi Jo Wilson for yesterday’s shoot.
I got many requests to share a Step By Step guide, so as promised here is a post showing you how to recreate this look for yourselves.
I did not realise till resizing my images for this post that I had a mark on my camera lense, so apologies for the annoying smudge on these photos. First of all get a selection of brushes. I used these from Crown Brush UK, Illamasqua and Shu Uemura.
The first step I took was to prep the skin with a moisturiser, an eye cream and a lip balm. Then I defined the brows using M.A.C Eyebrow Pencil in Lingering, and an Illamasqua Eyebrow Cake in Thunder. I used an Illamasqua Eyebrow brush with the powder. Sammi loves a heavy brow hence the strong look.
|From left to right: Glamour Light, Retrospeck, Honesty, Cognac and Sketch|
For the Eyes:
To prime the eye area I used Nars Smudge Proof eye base, in my opinion no eye primer beats this product. I then chose to use the M.A.C Cosmetics Fabulousness: 5 Warm Eyes Palette. I understand some of you may not have this palette, so just go with shades that are similar.
I swept Glamour Light, (an eggshell satin eyeshadow with pink pearlized pigment), underneath the brow bone as a highlighter.
Using a flat dense shadow brush, I applied a mix of Retrospeck and Honesty all over the lid. To define the crease I applied Cognac (frosty golden bronze) to the socket line. Use a flat shadow brush, just the end of it and push the colour into the crease all the way along. By doing this you will create a harsh line, this is fine as next I blended the colour with a M.A.C Cosmetics 217 Blending brush. Blend backwards and forwards along the crease gently to soften the colour just a touch.
One of my favourite shades to use is in this palette, Sketch (a burgandy with red shimmer). Using the flat shadow brush, I applied a little of Sketch to the outer corners of the eye (see picture as a guideline) as well as taking the colour along the lower lash line just to the centre.
I then went back to Glamour Light to highlight the inner corners of the eyes.To give the eyes a bit more texture I dabbed a little of a glitter pigment, to the centre of the lid. The pigments I have are limited edition, but a similar shade would be Melon, a golden peachy colour.
Retrospect, Honesty and Sketch are all a part of the permanent line of M.A.C Cosmetics eyeshadows if you do not have this palette, you can still get hold of these shades.
I used Maybelline Drama Gel Eye liner in Black to line both the inner water line and the top lash line. I then used M.A.C Duo Eyelash glue to attach my favourite Ardell Demi Wispies false eyelashes. The mascara I chose to use was Lancome Waterproof Hypnose Mascara in Black.
For the Base:
I applied Illamasqua Satin Primer to the skin. I then used two different shades of M.A.C Face and Body Foundation. The lighter shade mainly in the centre of the face, the slightly darker shade underneath cheek bones, the edges of the temple and the sides of the nose. This is an easy way to contour and sculpt the face, but I will add more contour later. I then used a blending brush to apply the Bourjois Healthy Mix Cream Concealer in shade one underneath the area area, along the bridge of the nose and in the centre of the forehead. This really brightened up Sammi’s face. To knock out the slight blue tones underneath the inner corners of her eyes I used the peach M.A.C Prep and Prime highlighter.
To further define Sammi’s face and to add a bit more colour I used Illamasqua Cream Blusher in Zygomatic along the cheek bones. This shade has a gorgeous sheen to it. I then dusted Kiko Matte Bronzer across the temple, a little underneath the cheek bones and sides of the nose. To finish off the skin I then added MUA Cosmetics Blusher in Blossom to the apples of her cheeks.
For the lips I used M.A.C Cosmetics Subculture lip pencil and a Pro Longwear Lip Glass in Show Me.
This is the finished look guys! I hope you enjoyed this post. If you have any questions just leave me a message below!!
See you soon,
